The remanufacturer has relocated production, with 50 employees set to be made redundant.
Kleinezeitung.at reported on the redundancies, which come as a result of the remanufacturer’s relocation of production to Eastern Europe, which has reduced the number of employees at its base Feldkirchen, Austria. The 50 employees are “pre-registered” on the Early Warning System of the Public Employment Service for dismissal, the site has added.
CEO Christian Wernhart stated that “a spiral of falling prices and rising labour costs” had made the “economical” remanufacturing of toner cartridges in Austria “impossible”, and he added that Embatex had “used all possibilities” to “increase productivity” in Feldkirchen, but that the decision has now been made to “reduce the number of employees in Austria” and “outsource parts of the production” process.
Embatex is said by the news site to remanufacture 700,000 toner cartridges and 900,000 inkjet cartridges, selling them under the Emstar brand, and had enjoyed a 73 percent share of exports.
