The manifesto of the Scottish National Party (SNP) promises “we will support businesses, the third sector and public sector organisations”.
If elected, the party will work with these groups to “boost productivity by using energy, materials and water more efficiently, so we can build a more resource efficient Scotland.
“This includes work to stimulate remanufacturing networks and supply chains through the Scottish Institute of Remanufacturing, one of only four international centres of excellence”.
The SNP also promised to continue developing its zero waste strategy that it has harnessed through its representation in the Scottish parliament. Introducing reverse vending machines to reward recycling is one of the ongoing initiatives it hopes to implement.
The UK Labour Party’s Green Plan 2015 described remanufacturing as a “growing industry” that “provides jobs in every region, and for every skill level.” It plans to invest £150 million ($223 million/€209 million) in “better environmental protection” and create a million more green jobs.
Letsrecycle.com criticised the plan for having “few new policy revelations […] and no mention of whether the Party would support an Office for Resource Management (ORM) within government – a policy called for last month by the All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group”. A report in March 2015 found that the UK could lose out on £3 billion ($4.4 billion/€4.1 billion) if it failed to embrace remanufacturing.
