The OEM has also revealed Steve Nigro will head the 3D printing segment.

TCT Magazine reported on the creation of HP’s 3D printing division with Steve Nigro, currently in charge of HP’s printing business, to take charge of the new unit. The Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing technology was announced by HP in October 2014, and is set to be launched next year, and this latest announcement comes after the OEM recently revealed a boardroom reorganisation.

The department announcement comes ahead of HP’s split in November this year into two separate companies – HP Enterprise and HP Inc. – having announced the split last October. The PC and printing side, HP Inc., will be run by Dion Weisler as President and CEO, whilst Meg Whitman will be President and CEO of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, the software and services side.

Weisler revealed the 3D printing business in an internal memo, also announcing that there would be a centre of excellence to “enable the company to establish itself as a leader within the prototyping and 3D production market through technology, products and services”. He added that “when we announced our plans to separate, we knew that 3D printing would be a key area of innovation and growth for HP Inc.

“Our company is positioned perfectly to take advantage of our sophisticated intellectual property and know-how to transform industries and power the next industrial revolution”.
