Epson has been helping repair classrooms through non-profit group Philippine Business for Social Progress, following Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013, known locally as Yolanda.
The OEM branch, Epson Precision (Philippines), matched the amount raised by an employee fundraising drive and presented the donation for repairing damaged classrooms, after 1,706 of them were completely destroyed in the storm.
A new building with large space in the rooftop for use as a shelter has been erected as a result, as well as new study desks. Haiyan was the strongest storm ever recorded at landfall and the unofficial fourth strongest typhoon for wind speed.
Around 10 million people were affected in the vicinity of Leyte, while 1,178 schools were damaged in the province, affecting 186,617 students. The OEM and Canon both donated at the time, as did Fuji Xerox and Kyocera.
