Canon aims for 30 percent of Indian inkjet market

india webThe OEM says it currently has 20 percent share of the sector, and will increase its dominance by an extra 10 percent by the end of next year.

Kazutada Kobayashi, President and CEO for India, said that there were new opportunities as new home buyers emerge and the Canon portfolio grows, Economic Times reported.

He says the group will expand its number of exclusive outlets from 166 to 180 by the end of the year, growing to 250 by December 2016. The company has just launched its PIXMA G series printers, which he said offer prints at costs as low as eight paise (equivalent to 10 prints per $/€ cent) for mono and 21 paise for colour (equivalent to three prints per $/€ cent).

Desktop printers make up 30 percent of Canon India’s revenue, and the CEO said his company would spend Rs 14 crore ($212,000/€194,000) on branding and promotion and Rs 5 crore ($760,000/€693,000).

Research found that 335,000 of inkjets were shipped to India in 1Q2015, up four percent from the 2014 respective quarter.
