TBS Printware discusses environmental credentials

Feb 21, 2017

The German remanufacturer stated that “eco-friendly procurement improves the eco-balance and saves costs.

In a press release (German), the company stated that “the protection of the environment is one of the most important tasks of our time”, and that it “pays particular attention to the sustainability of its products”, having been “the first company in Germany to be certified with the Blue Angel RAL ZU 177 for recycled toner modules for its concept of reprocessing and multiple use”.

The company also noted the EU’s European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) – a “voluntary tool to help companies and organisations of all sizes and industries to improve their environmental performance continuously”, but contended that “even with the daily purchase of environmentally-friendly products, institutions and commercial consumers can improve their environmental performance and eco-balance”.

In that vein, it stated that its “50-year market presence” has allowed it to “specialise in environmentally-friendly printer accessories”, with Managing Director Andreas John stating that “especially the public sector should better serve [as a] role model for society and, in principle, give priority to environmentally-friendly products when purchasing office materials.

“Protecting the environment is one of the most important tasks of our time. With its purchasing behaviour, the state can significantly contribute to saving resources and avoiding harmful emissions”. He cited a German guide that “also provides a guide to procurement [of] environmentally-friendly printer and multifunctional systems”.

This “was already published in 2014 by a joint working group of the procurement office of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Agency for Labor, the Umweltbundesamt (UBA) and the IT umbrella organisation Bitkom”, and TBS added that “remanufacturing reduces CO2 emissions by up to 70 percent”, noting that it “pays particular attention to the sustainability of its products”, with the Blue Angel certification awarded “for this reason”

John added that “we are putting our focus on remanufacturing. In this process, all used toner cartridges are disassembled, vacuum-cleaned and the necessary [worn] parts are replaced, while most other components of the cartridges are usually reused. As a result, valuable resources are saved in comparison to a new product, reducing CO2 emissions by as much as 70 percent”.

The press release concluded by noting that “compatible TBS products are safe for the environment”, and that it “provides a 36-month manufacturing guarantee on all items, while maintaining the manufacturing guarantee for the used printers even when using TBS printer accessories”.
