The remanufacturer will relocate inkjet remanufacturing to the Czech Republic from Malaysia.
The company stated (German) that its inkjet cartridge remanufacturing will “relocate” from Malaysia “to the plant in the Czech Republic”, where it has “been producing remanufactured toner modules”, and the move “will be completed by March 2017”. It added that “the main reasons for shifting production” include “on the one hand, to become more flexible” and “on the other hand, to reduce the environmental impact”.
Pelikan added that its “most important market for printer accessories in Europe”, and that the relocation “will significantly reduce the environmental pollution caused by transport”, with “the company policy of Pelikan to “comply with environmental regulations” and “systematically to minimise […] environmental impact […] and improve environmental performance”.
The company noted that it “offers comprehensive empties-collection programmes”, while its toner cartridges feature Nordic Ecolabel certification, which is “a voluntary ecolabel” that studies a “product’s impact on the environment – throughout the life cycle – and the quality of the product [is] evaluated in general”.
Last month, the company also received “accredited certification of the revised” ISO 14001;2015 standard, which it stated “reflects Pelikan’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection at the highest level”. The Czech site, in Kyjov, “employs about 300 people”, with “a large proportion of them working in R&D and production at Kyjov” in toner remanufacturing, while the plant has a capacity of 1.5 million cartridges per year.
Pelikan concluded by noting that the factory there “has recently received the accredited certification” for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, while “at the same time” an independent auditor “extended” the plant’s OHSAS 18001:2007 certification. Earlier this month, Pelikan reorganised its sales and marketing, and will operate them from Moers.
Joachim Kretschmer, Managing Director of Pelikan Hardcopy Production AG, commented: “The market is more dynamic than ever before. We want to respond more quickly to market changes and we believe that the move to Kyjov (Czech Republic) will make a big contribution to this. In addition, it will help to improve our environmental performance, which is very important for us as a company.”
