Franchise Direct named the top 100 global franchises, and cartridge franchise Cartridge World was featured, with McDonalds top of the list.
Franchise Direct announced the list, which is decided by its own methodology and uses criteria with weighted value, which is then fed into a “proprietary computer formula” for an objective outcome. The criteria included: system size based on numbers of units; revenue for the system; stability and growth; number of years in operation; and market expansion; while the rankings were based on: best practices; environmental policy; and social responsibility.
All the information was taken from franchise disclosure documents (FDDs) as well as data submitted by the companies, published industry resources and government filings. Franchise Direct said that the top 100 global franchises shared the same “keys to success”, which included a well-known business identity, “clear business plans, commitment to training and support, sensitivity to environmental issues and the ability to innovate” to keep up with social and economic changes, and that they were in more than one country, which meant that they had to develop cultural sensitivities.
Franchise Direct stated that the top 100 franchises are models for young franchise businesses that want to expand, and to companies who are considering the “benefits of the franchise business model”. Cartridge World was 92nd in the list, and was named in the same list two years ago, while it was also named in a similar list by Entrepreneur magazine in 2015 and 2014.
