Printing and writing paper shipments were down eight percent during February.
Lesprom.com reported that shipments of paper were down this February compared to the same time last year and that “total printing-writing paper inventory levels were flat from January 2017”, according to the American Forest and Paper Association. The report stated shipments of uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper had decreased by six percent year-over-year in February, but that “UFS imports increased nine percent in January” compared to last year at the same time, with “exports decreasing” by five percent.
Coated free sheet (CFS) paper also decreased by eight percent in the same period, while imports increased by five percent, and exports increased by two percent in January. There was a decrease of 23 percent in uncoated mechanical (UM) shipments in February, while imports increased 11 percent in January, exports increasing to 17 percent in January.
Shipments of coated mechanical (CM) paper decreased eight percent in February 2017, while imports decreased three percent in January compared to last year, and exports increased 13 percent at the same time. The report said that “the American Forest & Paper Association serves to advance a sustainable US pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products manufacturing industry through fact-based public policy and marketplace advocacy”.
