Both Thai police and HP Inc representatives raided a factory producing counterfeit cartridges worth Bt20 million ($578,871/€542,518).
Nation Multimedia reported on the raid, which saw the police “accompanied by a representative” of HP Inc raid a factory in Pathum Thani, where they found “fake [printer] cartridges” that were estimated to have “caused damage” of around Bt20 million to the OEM. Police arrested “several workers” at the two-floor house, under the name of Future Point Co Ltd in Tambon Klong Sam in the Klong Luang district.
The workers were set to “be interrogated before police move to arrest their bosses”, with HP Inc’s representative in Thailand, Benedict Chen Yitang, having “accompanied police on the raid”. In turn, Police Major-General Chavalit Sawaengpuet, who is also Deputy Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, stated that police “had conducted investigations for over three months before carrying out the raid”.
The bureau had “received a complaint” from HP Inc about the company’s “manufacture of imitation [printer] cartridges”, which the OEM had said “damaged its reputation as the fake cartridges were of poor quality”. Additionally, Chavalit noted that the “owner of the firm bought used cartridges from major firms to make the fake ones”.
