The OEM received the ‘Recycling Award’ from the city of San Diego.
The OEM announced that it was “honoured” to receive the award for the 17th year from the Environmental Services Department in San Diego, for its efforts in recycling and reduction in waste and energy over the last year. The company continues its efforts to improve the environment, and these include reusing 100 percent of water used in its “production processes [and] reusing shipping materials”.
They also consist of investing funds in safeguarding landfills as well as reusing all furnishings and electronics from offices. The company also conducted the event “Kyocera Earth Expo”, and makes sure that its offices use the recycling bins provided. The OEM also updated its portfolio of “mobile devices to focus on rugged, waterproof devices that last longer, creating less electronic waste and recycling matter”.
The amount of water saved last year was 10 million gallons, the equivalent of 470 household’s usage in San Diego, and the OEM is active in reducing the use of paper where possible, with all its printers at its plants defaulted to print both sides, and all use “100 percent recycled toner cartridges”. The company also supports the charity Cell Phones For Soldiers, which uses recycled and pre-owned mobile phones, “helping soldiers stay in touch with their families”.
Bob Whisler, President of Kyocera, said: “Kyocera has a long-standing commitment to social responsibility and sustainability. As members of the San Diego community, the company and our employees take this responsibility very seriously, and we are proud to be recognised again this year for our dedication to improving the environment and impacting the greater social good.”
