Scottish contract includes SMEs

OEMs Canon and Xerox will be competing with local businesses in the print contract worth £60 million ($77/€68 million).

Public Technology reported that the Scottish government has “selected a mix of big-name vendors and small local specialists” which totals eight firms chosen for the print and services contract.

The award notice for the government’s Framework Agreement for the provision of Office Equipment and Services showed OEMs Konica Minolta, Canon, Ricoh, and Xerox as successful bidders and also Capital Document Solutions from Edinburgh and Exsel IT and Communications from Glasgow. Added to the list Annodata and Danwood also made the cut.

All eight will have the job of delivering products and services which will include “low end devices” and “large rollouts of sophisticated software and monitoring”. The award notice further stated: “The framework… will include the supply and delivery of a wide portfolio of products, ranging from small, single-function desktop printers, to large print room high-volume products, consisting of mono and colour, network and non-network requirements; and services and solutions up to a fully managed print service.”

The article noted that the agreement is for an “initial two year period” and that the government has the option to extend the period by “one year extensions”. Spending is expected to be between £28 million ($36/€31million) and £56 million ($72/€63 million) and the range of public agencies to benefit are, healthcare local government, education, housing, and emergency services, who can purchase through the agreement which will be divided into lots.
