Lexmark’s 2016 Volunteer of the Year has been named as Brazilian business analyst Marisa Freitas.
Freitas, who has been with Lexmark for eight years and who currently works with their MPS Operations Team, first became involved with volunteerism in 2011, following a visit to a children’s cancer house in Sao Paolo. In 2013, she established the group Espalhando Amor (‘Spreading Love’), whose members volunteer with various charities and charitable services. Besides hosting actives, Espalhando Amor collect and distribute clothing, food and medicine to children and adults with serious illness and disabilities, as well as victims of domestic violence.
“Volunteer work is important to me, because by dedicating myself to others, I become a better human being,” Freitas said. “Giving a little of myself to others makes a big difference in people’s lives and this is priceless. I am honoured by this recognition from Lexmark, which has always supported my efforts.”
Lexmark’s MPS Coordinator, Wagner Silva, praised his colleague, saying: “Whenever there is a need for help, Marisa immediately starts a campaign to raise funds and donations for it. She spares no effort in helping other people, and inspires all around her to dedicate part of their time to helping others.”
Lexmark’s Volunteer of the Year Award, first launched in 2004, is designed to recognise and encourage volunteerism amongst Lexmark employees worldwide. The company will donate the local equivalent of $2,500(€2,200) to a charity of Freitas’ choice.
