Canon launches a new Nigerian venture

The major Japanese firm is linking up with three local services centres to enhance its -business-to-customer services in the country

Canon, recently announced that it has formed a partnership with three Nigerian service centres, located in three of the country’s major cities, as part of an initiative aimed at increasing its presence in the country.

According to a July article by Adeyemi Adepetun in The Guardian Nigeria, Canon is also hoping this venture will “drive its ‘closer to customer’ strategy”.

The three Nigerian companies involved in the alliance are Kontakt, Ensure Services, and Technology Distribution. According to the article, Canon aims to use their local knowledge and expertise to ensure a better consumer experience for its customers, providing total after-sales repair services in eight locations spread across the cities of Port Harcourt, Abuja and the capital, Lagos. All B2C products will be supported by the venture, among them DSLR, DSC, both OPP inkjet and laser printers, calculators and projectors which fall under the Canon Central and North Africa warranty programme. This service offers customers a variety of benefits, among them “an exclusive three-year manufacturer warranty for Canon i-SENSYS Laser printers”.

According to Somesh Adukia, Sales and Marketing Director B2C, Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA), “This partnership clearly amplifies our commitment to bringing our customers closer to our industry-leading products while helping them to maintain the quality that allows them to have fun with imaging…Our setting up of a dedicated entity in Nigeria last year and the introduction of three specialised service providers is our commitment to providing the best possible services to our customers in Nigeria. We are also working towards establishing more collection points for our customers, in case they are located far away from the service locations.”

All three of the centres involved in this new venture are well-established in Nigeria and further afield, renowned for the quality of their services. Technology Distribution “will be supporting our customers on Canon OPP ink jet and laser printers across Nigeria” according to a statement from the firm, while Kontakt has joined with Canon invest in specialised tools which allow them to provide high standards of product repair.

Last but not least, Ensure Services, which has outlets in 26 countries, including three Nigerian cities, features “an inventory of major spare parts for prompt repair and delivery of the products. Ensure will be responsible for providing support to the Photo video and OPP printer range”.
