The two companies have formed a strategic partnership in order to create co-branded molecular-tagged inks and a co-branded printer designed specifically for those inks.
In a move that could potentially have a severe knock-on effect on the remanufacturing industry in months and years to come, a new strategic alliance has been announced between Applied DNA Sciences Inc., and Videojet Technologies. Street Insider reports that they have collaborated on the design of “Applied DNA SigNature molecular-tagged Videojet inks, and a co-branded printer that electronically restricts the use of ink cartridges to only those that contain SigNature DNA inks.”
This “world-class solution” is going to be introduced at Pack Expo 2017, held this week in Las Vegas, and “will be offered to the many industries in which both companies are already engaged.”
The new ink-restricted printer is a newly released 1860 model from Videojet and “will incorporate Applied DNA’s unique SigNature molecular tag into each individual ink cartridge.” As for the inks themselves, they “will be brand-specific, enabling each brand to tag, test and track their products from source to shelf under a Certain T platform”, thereby allowing brands to promise customers absolute authenticity.
Among the newly launched co-branded inks is a durable black aerospace-approved ink, which “was chosen to qualify first” and since its testing “is most commonly used as a date/lot code marking solution for food, tobacco, coffee, baby, health and personal care.”
Dr. James Hayward, President and CEO of Applied DNA, commented, ““We are very excited to team with Videojet to bring this combined solution to market and offer a broad range of companies a definitive method to support their brand protection strategies. This is a significant opportunity to increase the universe of SigNature-tagged items, increase our market share, and broadly secure the supply chains of complex commercial ecosystems through the use of our CertainT platform.”
“Applied DNA’s SigNature molecular tags and CertainT platform complements Videojet’s marking and coding solutions, allowing us to offer a new secure ink option, adding to our robust portfolio of brand protection and industrial track and trace offerings that are used across many commercial industries,” said Fred Susi, Videojet VP of Business and Product Planning.
