Print security discussed in new video

Oct 23, 2017

Lexmark have published a presentation on how to clamp down on security infringements.

Lexmark have released a video in which Frank Dickson, the Research Director at IDC Security Products, discusses printer security, in a presentation from earlier this year.

Dickson asserts that printing is interconnected and related, and argues that until now, companies have been looking at printer security from the viewpoint of a print analyst, not a security analyst.

In the 16-minute video, he talks of the growing threat from cyber-attackers, and the growing number of environments that need protecting from them – citing mobile technology, cloud software, and SaaS (Software as a Service) as examples.

Asking the question of “Who’s managing your print?”, Dickson highlights the possible vacuum in terms of responsibility for printer security, also discussing the idea of the ‘death of the perimeter’, and the status of printing technology as a result.

Identifying three key pillars – data security, network security, and application security – Dickson also offers tips for businesses to reduce vulnerabilities, and eliminate common security errors, such as repeated passwords across entire companies.
