Quality of materials and suitability of legislation were the major issues arising.
The European Plastics Converters (EUPC) association has published the results of its survey on the use of recycled plastics in European industry, reports K-Zeitung. The Europe-wide survey was carried out in May 2017, in collaboration with Polymer Comply Europe.
The survey found that the standard of recyclates is the greatest hurdle to their increased use as raw materials, with nearly 60 percent of respondents reporting their difficulties in finding recyclates of acceptable quality. It also suggested an issue with the promotion of information: Only 27 percent said that their customers were adequately informed about the use of recyclates.
Another key finding of the survey was the widespread dissatisfaction with the current legislation, with almost 60 percent of respondents believing that the current European framework requires amendment in order to support the use of recyclates.
All participating EUPC members and companies will receive a detailed copy of the report in the coming months. Further surveys and workshops are scheduled for 2018.
